Great content nobody can crawl is just an expensive draft

Technical SEO is the layer underneath everything else: whether search engines can reach your pages, render them, understand them and decide they are worth keeping. When it is broken, no amount of content or links compensates.

The Honest Overview

What Technical SEO actually is.

A definition first, then the part of SEO Services this covers.

Technical SEO is the practice of making a website reachable, renderable and interpretable by search engines: controlling what gets crawled and indexed, ensuring content appears in the rendered HTML, keeping the site fast and stable on real devices, and describing pages in structured data a machine can act on.

Most sites do not have a content problem. They have a plumbing problem that looks like a content problem. Pages exist and read well, but a canonical tag points somewhere else, a JavaScript framework renders the copy after the crawler has already left, or forty thousand faceted URLs are consuming the crawl budget that should have gone to the two hundred pages that make money.

This is the least visible part of our search practice and usually the highest leverage. Technical work rarely produces a satisfying screenshot. What it produces is every other investment starting to work: the content you already paid for getting indexed, the links you already earned passing authority to the right URL, and the rankings you already had surviving a redesign.

The failure mode we see most often is a site that ranks in spite of itself. It survives because the brand is strong or the competition is weak, and nobody notices the technical debt until a migration, a framework upgrade or a core update removes the cushion. By then the diagnosis is expensive and the traffic loss is already three months old.

We work in the order the crawler does: can it reach the page, can it render the page, does it understand the page, does it consider the page worth keeping. Fixes are verified in Search Console rather than in a crawler's own report, because a tool saying the tag is correct and Google saying the page is indexed are different claims.

Deliverables

What this includes.

Six workstreams, run in the order a search engine actually encounters your site.

Crawl & Log Analysis

What search engines actually request, how often, and how much of your crawl budget is spent on URLs that should never have existed.

Index Control

Canonicals, noindex, pagination, faceted navigation and parameter handling, so the pages that earn money are the pages in the index.

Rendering Audit

Whether your content exists in the rendered HTML or arrives after the crawler has gone, which is the quiet killer on JavaScript heavy builds.

Core Web Vitals

Field data rather than lab scores, fixed at the code level with our engineering team rather than papered over with a caching plugin.

Structured Data

Schema that is valid, accurate and matched to the page, because incorrect markup is worse than none once a manual action arrives.

Migration Protection

Redirect mapping, pre-launch staging audits and post-launch monitoring, since migrations are where most catastrophic traffic losses actually happen.

Infographic · Our Method

How Technical SEO runs.

Four phases. The audit is not the deliverable; the fixed site is.

1
Weeks 1 to 2

Crawl, Log, Render

A full crawl, server log analysis where logs are available, and rendering comparison between raw and rendered HTML. The output is a prioritized list where every item carries the traffic or revenue at stake, so nothing gets fixed simply because a tool coloured it red.

2
Weeks 2 to 5

Fix in Priority Order

Indexation and rendering issues first, because they gate everything else. Our developers implement rather than handing your team a PDF, which is the difference between an audit that changes rankings and one that sits in a shared drive for a year.

3
Weeks 4 to 8

Speed and Structured Data

Core Web Vitals worked at the code level against field data, and schema implemented and validated per template. Both are verified on real devices and in Search Console rather than in a lab score that flatters everyone.

4
Ongoing

Monitor and Protect

Index coverage, crawl stats and vitals watched monthly, with pre-launch review of any redesign or framework change. Most technical damage is self inflicted during a release nobody thought was an SEO event.

Ecommerce SEO

Ecommerce SEO is a different problem to content SEO. Thousands of near identical pages, stock that disappears, filters that generate infinite URLs, and a catalogue that changes weekly. The strategy has to survive all four.

Technical SEO questions.

The questions buyers ask us on every discovery call, answered before the call.

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that makes a site reachable, renderable and interpretable by search engines: controlling crawling and indexation, making sure content appears in the rendered HTML, keeping pages fast and stable on real devices, and describing them in valid structured data. It is the layer beneath content and links, and when it is broken neither of the other two can compensate.

How is technical SEO different from regular SEO?

Regular SEO covers the whole discipline including content, keywords and authority. Technical SEO is the subset concerned with access and interpretation rather than with what the page says. Both run off the same strategy here, which is why technical fixes are prioritised by the revenue they unlock rather than by how alarming a crawler makes them look.

Do you just deliver an audit, or do you implement the fixes?

We implement. An audit handed to a busy development team is the most common way technical SEO fails, because the recommendations are competing with the product roadmap and lose. Our developers ship the changes, and where your own team must own a fix, we write the ticket in their language with the reasoning attached.

My site is built in React or Next.js. Does that hurt SEO?

Not inherently, but it changes what has to be checked. The question is whether your content exists in the HTML the crawler receives or arrives afterwards through client side rendering. Server rendering or static generation resolves it cleanly; client only rendering can work but needs verification rather than assumption. We test what the crawler actually sees rather than trusting the framework's marketing.

We are planning a redesign or migration. When should you be involved?

Before the URL structure is decided, not after launch. Migrations are the single most common cause of catastrophic organic traffic loss, and almost all of that damage is preventable with redirect mapping, a staging audit and monitoring in the first weeks. Being called in afterwards means recovering rankings rather than never losing them.

How long before technical fixes show results?

Indexation and rendering fixes can move within weeks because they change what search engines can access immediately. Core Web Vitals improvements register in field data over roughly a month as real user measurements accumulate. Structural changes to a large site take a full crawl cycle, which on big sites means a quarter rather than a fortnight.

Your rankings may be surviving in spite of the build.
